Skins, and assorted goodies

I know if you install too many fonts, running win98\ME, it could slow your system. What about XP?

I have a font library setup on one of my drives that is broken down into type and style and then use a font utility to enable and disable (install-remove) fonts upon selection..

I do have 2009 fonts installed at this moment in XP Pro and it doesn't really affect my system. Photoshop can get wiggy with fonts as it does filters when to many load up at one time, makes it sluggish on my system.

52. I use Tahoma. Dull, boring, and readable. The others were installed by applications and I got fed up trying to delete them. They are pests. Like ants. Roachs. Crawling hiether and theier. Here and there. They're taking over. Get a grip Crab. >

2000 and XP can handle any number of fonts....but Win 9x has a limit based on the names [their total length], not a specific number of fonts...

The only thing I know is when I open my fonts folder, my PC crashes, or when I want to choose font in Photoshop, I need to wait about 45 or so seconds

Morphium, you could have a corrupted fonts folder. I've seen this mainly happen when a program is uninstalled and the font that is linked to it by the fonts folder is orphan. Also, if your fonts are just shortcuts all over your hard drive this can slow down the fonts folder and maybe crash it. I always choose the option to copy the fonts directly to the fonts folder. That way if you un-install a program, it won't remove the font linked by the fonts folder. Try looking for shortcut symbols in your fonts folder, and see if they actually exist. You may even find exclamation marks signalling a problem in your fonts folder. If you find existing shortcuts try copying those fonts directly to your fonts folder. I had this problem in Win98 and I had a corrupted fonts folder because of this problem. You can also try running Spybot. Specifically, Norton Windoctor showed me this error back when I was using Win98SE. It might find the errors in your fonts folder, or their orphan associations/misplaced associations in your registry.
